Rotary Hears About "Lion's Pride Campaign"

The members of the Chelmsford Rotary Club welcomed Tom Curran and George Simonian at their meeting on Monday.  Simonian, Executive Director of the Chelmsford High School Alumni Association, introduced Curran who spoke about the Association's new "Lion's Pride Campaign".  Curran explained the unique and important services provided by the Association and why the Association needs to raise money to insure financial stability in the future.
The association is best known for it's Hall of Fame.  Each year 9 are inducted based on their contributions while in school and in the community after graduation.  It is not an athletic hall of fame.  Scientists, doctors, radio personalities, teacher, business leaders, actors etc. are included.  The Association also has an endowment fund of $1.3 million which supports 105 scholarships.  The Association publishes an outstanding alumni magazine, The Lion's Pride,  three times a year and has an "Authors' Corner" in the high school's "Learning Commons".  There are 101 books in the collection published by 70 authors who graduated from CHS.  Currently, a mentoring program is being developed to help link students and graduates with people who work in career field of interest or a university being considered.
The CHS Alumni Association hopes to hire a director to carry on the various programs.  The current dues structure is no longer provides adequate financial support for the continued growth of the organization.  The community will be hearing more about the campaign as it gets further underway.
